5 Essential Tips for Moms-to-Be on the North Shore

As a mom who’s been through it, I can honestly say that there are a few things I wish I had known before my boys arrived. Over the years, I’ve had many moms share similar experiences with me during maternity and newborn photo shoots, and often, the question I get is, "What did you do?" So, here are five tips I personally wish I had known when I was preparing for motherhood on the North Shore. These pieces of advice are a mix of a personal experience but also suggestions from new Moms!

1.      Facebook Mom Groups are a Game-Changer
Facebook Mom groups are invaluable. You can ask almost any question, and there's always someone with great advice. I remember being in so much pain around 30 weeks of pregnancy, and the suggestions I got from the group were life-saving. Then, when our boys were born, one of them had sleep issues, and once again, the advice from fellow moms saved me. I highly recommend checking out groups like North Vancouver Moms, North Shore Moms, and West Vancouver Moms. There’s even a group for your baby’s birth year! North Vancouver Moms Group

2.      Baby Stores Are Your Best Friend
You’ll soon realize how much you rely on baby stores—they know exactly what you need and are always ready to answer your questions. Active Baby on Lonsdale is my favorite spot. You can browse in person or shop online for all your baby essentials: Active Baby. Regardless if you are shopping for yourself, or for a special gift for a mamma to be/new Mom, they have you covered.

3.      Attend and Form Bonds in Your Prenatal Classes
Find the right Prental Class for you and your partner. Get to know the other parents in your prenatal class. I highly suggeset Prenatal in a Nutshell, and I’m so grateful for the lasting friendships we've formed. One of my closest friends’ son was born on the same day as ours, and we’ve shared countless birthday adventures together. It’s truly special to have friends with kids the same age who’ve been a part of your journey from the beginning. It’s so nice to be able to share experinces and ask questions in a comfortable setting with people going through a simular life experience.

4.      Prenatal Yoga/Fitness Classes Can Lead to Lifelong Friendships
If you can, sign up for a prenatal yoga class. It’s a fantastic way to meet other moms-to-be and form a supportive community. After class, it’s great to grab a tea or go for a walk with fellow participants. We love Kahlena Prenatal Yoga in Edgemont Village—it's the perfect place to connect with other women on the same journey. We’ve heard wonderful things about Lagree West's "Mega Mama" class – it’s a fantastic way to strengthen your pelvic floor and engage your deep core muscles through mindful breathwork. You can check out their schedule and learn more here: Lagree West - Mega Mama Class.

5.      Start exploring daycare, preschool, and baby care options now!

While it might seem early, many places have long waitlists, so it’s a good idea to plan ahead if and when you are considering returning to work. We absolutely love Lonsdale Creek Daycare, which has several convenient locations and great options: Lonsdale Creek Daycare.

We also recommend Olive Grove Childcare, which offers both daycare and after-school care.

Both centers offer an array of enriching activities like music, crafts, gardening, yoga, and so much more! Take your time to explore the best options for you and your little one!

Take good care of yourself. Wishing you a healthy and joyful pregnancy, along with a smooth and safe delivery.
